is it best to wear ski goggles when going skiing?

Oct-25-2009 Posted under Goggles Skiing

first time we are going and just wondering. If yes why is it best to have them

I recomend it. If its your first time I would say either goggles or glasses of some sort. The good thing about goggles is that they stay on easier and let less air in. Wearing goggles really helps because if you get going down the hill at any good speed the air in your eyes will make them water and its harder to see. Hope this helps :D

Yes, it is best to have them on. Preferably polarized ones which do not impair your vision. You need them since the surrounding white snow makes it very bright on the slopes, and can actually cause corneal damage. Also, the brightness makes it harder for you to see where you’re going. I’ve also heard of people who got ice shards in the face while skiing.

It really depends on the weather…

When i went skiing the first time, i really needed goggles a it was constantly snowing and they really helped. But the second time i went skiing, when i went to france, i didnt need them at all as the weather was perfect. I would buy some though just in case…

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SKIING!!!!! IT IS REALLY AWESOME!!!!

goggles are best when its snowing really heavy as sunglasses just wouldn’t offer the same protection ie snow would get into your eyes…

sunglases are fine when its a nice calm day…

goggles stay on much better and offer the most protection…take both with u and you’ll know yourself which to wear..

    have fun…

If you are a beginner I find it’s usually not best to wear them unless it is snowing. While there is nothing wrong with wearing them, I personally wouldn’t spend money on ski goggles and other accessories until you know you like the sport. Secondly, new skiers fall a lot and exert a lot of energy trying to get back up. This often causes goggles to fog up, not to mention that snow and water may collect on the lens and around the exterior of the goggles.

If you wear contacts, then maybe wearing goggles would be a good thing. Newer skiers usually don’t attain the speeds where wind becomes irritating to the eyes.

Unless it is wicked snowy, I normally ski wearing my prescription sunglasses or just my regular glasses. I’ve been skiing for over 20 years and I ski at least 3 days a week. I very rarely NEED my goggles.

It does all boil down to personal choice.

I like to wear goggles i wear them all the time. My sister normally wears glasses (oakley sun glasses). Goggles are great, its a prefrence thing, but you should wear some kind of goggle or sunglasses when going skiing in the day it gets very bright due to the clear sky’s and snow reflecting all that light in your face. Also when you get going fast it keeps your eyes from weeping. I almost always wear goggles. Just be careful, goggles are really expensive and even cheap ones demand that you take extra special care of them as they can scratch easily. I have spent as little as 40 dollars on a lense and as much as 180. You can see the difference between them just like a nice pair of glasses, but save your pennies and keep the price cheap or wear a sport glass or something. Good luck

Definitely. For one thing, it keeps your face way warmer than having sunglasses or nothing. For another, with the blinding glare of the sun in your face or off the snow and in your face, it helps tone down the brightness, like sunglasses, except better. This is because they are designed with a color filter in them- and there is hardly any color distortion! So yes, i strongly recommend that you get them. Hope this helped!

Ski goggles are ideal for high speed conditions at which at lot of snow is flying in the air and can obstruct your vision as well as sting your face. For example, in a race goggles would be the standard wear.

However, when you are skiing for leisure and starting out, sun glasses designed for skiing might be less cumbersome and more likely to stay in place. As well, they offer a wider range of view, especially from the side. Ski goggles can obstruct your side vision somewhat. As well, melting snow can collect on the lenses. They are also much costlier than sun glasses tend to be.

A lot a sun glasses ideal for skiing can be purchased for a relatively small amount of money in a sporting goods store and offer good protection from the rays of the sun.

Yes because the snow and sum are so bright and sun glasses may fall of when you are on the chair lifts and what not

I went for my first time last year. You’ll love it!
Yes, depending on the weather conditions, you need ski goggles.
I went down this mountain without them on, cause i forgot. (not clever)and all the snow just flicks up into your eyes and you have to keep blinking so it’s hard to see where you’re going.
If it’s more sunny, than cloudy and bland then wear some good sunglasses- and make sure they fit onto your face perfectly..
lol you dont want them flying off when you’re half way skiing down a slope. haha.
    Have fun.
